Players will see Max Payne as less a broad tragic hero and more an individual, a human being who has suffered and survived the hardships of the first two games and has the scars to prove it. He is voiced by his Max Payne 2 voice actor, Fred Berman, and appears to be modeled after his Max Payne 1 appearance. Then again thats probably because the originals cheekiness wouldnt have fit the second games tone as well. Max Payne without the original voice actor would be like Solid Snake without David Hayter. Then they changed the actor his animation/appearance was based on, which further upset people. Initially, it was announced that James McAfree (voice actor for Max) would be replaced, and that upset people. His multiplayer avatar is a part of the pre-order Classic Character Pack bonus. The new Max Payne 3 is met with both delight and surprise. I remember actively following its development and for some reason the fanbase turned on it. The graceful, balletic action of the first two games has been pushed strongly towards a more brutal and realistic approach this time and the story and setting have followed suit.
